perfect Wedding by Karen E Photographer

Planning a fall wedding is no small feat. Making sure the colors are right, the flowers are in season, and the reception area is not all ready booked, and everything else that goes into a wedding can be difficult to keep track of. Here is a step by step guide to assist you with planning the perfect fall wedding of your dreams.

4 Months Before Wedding

- Choose your wedding party, flower girl, ring bearer, and ushers. Let these people know and ask them to be a part of your wedding.

- Make sure you booked your wedding photographer and engagement photographer. Ask to see sample photos of the artists work before you hire them to take pictures or video tape your special day.

- A fall bouquet can be a breathtaking thing. However, picking the wrong flowers or flowers that are not in season is only going to cause disaster at your wedding. Visit your local florist months ahead of time to discuss and see samples of the types of flowers that will be available for your bouquet, boutonnières, and any other flower arrangement that will be at your wedding.

- After visiting the florist you should have a good idea what colors the wedding will be. Colors help to set the tone of a wedding. Since you are going for a fall wedding try picking oranges, rust, deep purples, tan, sienna, or yellows to match the outside environment.

- Book the church and reception hall. You can never book these places to early. It can be quite cool for an outdoor fall wedding. However, the scenery cannot be beat. Make sure to watch the weather and have a backup plan for rain or cold.

- Now is time to get those invitations. Your church and hall are booked, your photographer is ready, and much still needs to be done. We need to let people know your getting married now. Search online or gather wedding magazines to find the perfect invitation for you. Do not forget about stamps on the return rsvp envelopes.

- Visit the stylest and have your hair set the way you want it on your wedding day. Note any mishaps, how long the entire process takes, and make sure to have everything you need for that big day. After you get your hair perfect take a picture and make an appointment for your wedding day. Allow time for things to go wrong or the stylest to be late. You don't want to be rushed.

- Start making and creating the center pieces and any other decorations. If you are not going with fresh flowers on each table then you are most likely using some sort of non perishable item and it does not hurt to go ahead and have these made. If you are giving out wedding favors get them together (nothing with candy or food yet).

- If you are having music do not forget to reserve the DJ. You do not want to be walking down the isle to a taped version of “Here Comes the Bride” because you could not find a DJ at the last minute.

2 Months Before Wedding

- Address and mail all those pretty invitations you ordered a couple months ago. Put a return date for the rsvp envelopes and start a box to put the acceptance and regret envelopes in. You do not want to be looking around the house for a guest count at the last minute. Having a place for all these envelopes to go ahead of time is going to help you stay on track.

- Pick and order the food for the reception. The dinner is a big event at a reception and you want to get it perfect. Make sure that you can place the order for the maximum amount of guests but then change it later if needed when you get all the acceptance envelopes in the mail. You might be planning on 500 people but only 250 rsvp so you want to be able to change the food order.

- Pick a place for the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner. You cannot always plan on the church being available for a rehearsal. If this happens you need another location. Make the reservations to take the wedding party out for dinner after the rehearsal.

- Buy the brides maid and grooms men gifts. Make sure that these are small personal trinkets that show how appreciative you are that this person took time to be a part of your momentous day. Some suggestions for this gift could be a photo of you and the maid of honor in a special photo frame or a key chain with the individuals initials engraved on it.

- This is the time to buy your dress, if you haven't already, or check to make sure the dress still fits. Get your veil, gloves, shoes, jewelry, and anything else needed to complete your outfit.

- Order the wedding cake. Try to match the colors of your cake to the original colors chosen for the wedding. Taste, view, and have fun creating your perfect cake. If your having a grooms cake be sure to order that too.

1 Week Before Wedding

- Call around and confirm ALL appointments and arrangements. If your going on a honeymoon double check airline tickets and hotel reservations. If you are having family in town make sure the local hotels are going to have rooms available. Call and make sure you wrote your hair appointment down right. The florist will be able to confirm all the flowers ordered and when/where they are to be delivered. Call the caterer and try your dress on one last time to make sure no alterations are needed.

- Dress rehearsal and rehearsal dinner. Make sure to hand out the gifts for your wedding party. Have a toast prepared to thank everyone. You might want to remind the best man and maid of honor that they are toasting at the reception so they need to have something prepared for that day.

Day Before Wedding

- Get your nails and toes done.

- Have a massage, you need it by now.

- Make sure everything you need for tomorrow is ready by the door or packed in the car, including honeymoon items and things for the wedding.

- If the venue will allow you to set up a day early go and start setting out tables and center pieces.

- Double check you have everything for the hair stylest tomorrow.

- Take your dress out of the bag and check for any last minute repairs.

- Make sure you have the rings ready.

Wedding Day

- Go get your hair set.

- Remember to breath and eat!

- Have you makeup done or do it yourself.

- Be at the venue a little early to answer questions from the caterer and DJ. Ensure the flowers arrived and are in the correct places. Make sure the cake is what you ordered and everything is perfect.

- Get dressed last, you do not want to get anything on your dress.

- Know that not everything will go exactly as planned, there will be mistakes and blunders. Have fun and do not let the little things get you down. So the bread is a little hard, your dress got a drink spilt on it, and the flower girl will not stop screaming…at least your smiling and having a great time, that is what people will remember.
